Condenado a la desgracia

by Juan 4. June 2008 19:27

"Juan Manuel Formoso"
...

Shelfari

I've been checking out social networks more than before, and I came across shelfari, it's a service to publish what books you own, what you've read, write and read reviews, etc.

I have just started using it, but it looks promising, check my shelf so far (I have yet to finish building it)

The why of the spanish posts

by Juan 20. May 2008 10:28

I live in Argentina, and we speak spanish.

I chose to blog in english because I love the language, I can practice, and I'm aiming in the future to be an internationally read blog.

But I also do a few things here (like organizing and teaching 2 contests based on project hoshimi (yes, 2 different contests), and teaching a class in my university), where the audience may very well not speak english, so posts directed to them with resources or information will be in spanish.

This post will be linked to in the header of those posts as an explanation to my millions of english-speaking readers.

XFN

I've been reading a lot about xfn and the semantic web, and I really like it... I love the idea of creating a web of connections between everyone I know, of centralising relationships, and all that.

So I've created an endpoint in my blog, in order to exchange links with bloggers and extend this network of relationships, check it out, let me know what you think, and contact me if you are interested in being added to the list.

Oh, and start using xfn in your blogs.

Programming health hazards

by Juan 13. May 2008 17:48

I wasn't going to comment on this post, because at first it didn't seem interesting... but after I read the following excerpt I was so surprised that I had to share it

Out of 33 keyboards swabbed, four were regarded as a potential health hazard and one harboured five times more germs than one of the office's toilet seats.

Microbiologist Dr Peter Wilson said a keyboard was often "a reflection of what is in your nose and in your gut".

During the Which? tests in January this year, a microbiologist deemed one of the office's keyboards to be so dirty he ordered it to be removed, quarantined and cleaned.

It had 150 times the recommended limit for bacteria - five times as filthy as a lavatory seat tested at the same time, the research found.

Ewww... literally dirtier than a toilet seat!

Google spam filter for everyone!

by Juan 28. April 2008 20:27

I have a couple of pop3 accounts besides my primary one, and I don't like to be checking them all the time, so taking advantage of the fact that the primary account is a Gmail account, I use its extremely useful feature, which is the ability to check other mails from within it.

All you have to do is go to Settings -> Accounts -> Get mail from other accounts

On a completely unrelated matter, I always had problems with Outlook's spam filter… every now and then a valid E-Mail found its way to the spam folder, no matter which setting I used… so I ended up disabling it

I like using it, but that was really annoying…

So what happens when you join those two facts?

You get a clean inbox, because you are inadvertely using Gmail's spam filter!

Isn't that cool?

Me, me, me, me... me too

Sure, you don't really know who I am yet; but do you think that Steve McConnell, Ron Jeffries, or Jeff Atwood were always known?

No... they started exactly like me (*), with 4 subscribers, a few hits per day, and now look at them... all famous and stuff...

Just you wait, you are witnessing the birth of the best blog / information repository of all time! Cool

See ya!

(*) Disclaimer: I don't really know how they all started out...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something more bizarrely inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
